Living Donors Are True Earth Angels

Earth Angel - Woman with WingsSo much emphasis is placed on those organ donors that gave of themselves before leaving this world: the ones whose last selfless act saved the lives of many people. However, we cannot forget those organ donors who gave the gift of life and continue to live their own lives every day as though the act was no big deal. Yes, my friends, I am talking about the living organ donors.

Through a business connection, I was introduced to a young lady who needs work done on her organ donation awareness website. Like me, she took the miracle of organ transplantation and paired it with her creativity to bring organ donation awareness jewelry and gift items to life. Of course, I was going to help her with any website technical leads just because her cause was so true to my heart.

Before our phone conversation, I took a look at her website and read her story. Wow! She not only believes in organ donation but also is a living donor herself!

Now I have only met one other living organ donor, which ironically was my husband’s ENT when he was back on the ventilator. The doctor gave one of his kidneys to his son who was living a very healthy and active life. So this makes the second living donor that I have met and with each one I get to know, my eyes and heart open just a little more each time.

Living organ donors are a very rare people. They give out of the goodness of their hearts and the love for another human being. These people seek nothing in return but just knowing they have saved a life fills their life more than a million dollars could. There is no spotlight sought.

It is not about human sacrifice but rather human compassion. They are the true angels on Earth.

After her husband received a double-lung (bilateral) transplant in 2004, Shannon founded the Angel Cove Organ Donation Awareness Shop, which provides awareness t-shirts and gifts products for transplant recipients, living organ donors and donor families - giving 100% of the profits to help heart and lung transplant recipients with medical costs. Shannon lives in Milwaukee, Wisconsin with her wonderful husband and two chocolate Labrador Retrievers.
